Networking - Corporate Style

If you have attended a few networking events you might have noticed that they are mainly populated by independent coaches, consultants and small business owners. This is perfect if that's the market you are hoping to promote your services to, but what if you want to build your network of contacts in the corporate world?

Let's face it - most of the people you want to connect with are employees of a larger organisation. This is the case whether you are looking for senior executives, training managers or any other member of staff. 

Employees think differently from self-employed people and business owners when it comes to networking. They have a job to do and probably don't have enough time to do it, so networking is not high on their priority list unless they are thinking about making a career move.

Networking - Corporate Style

These people have a corporate marketing department working hard to build the profile of the organisation, so unless they are working in the Sales or Business Development functions, they won't be networking for leads in the same way that you might be.

They spend most days fielding incoming calls and sorting through sales letter and promotional emails from people and organisations trying to promote their businesses, so they're not likely to think, "I could do with meeting some prospective suppliers - I'll go to this networking event."

So if they're not approaching networking in the same way as you, how do you get in front of these people?

Most people working in large organisations don't go to 'networking events' unless they are looking for a job. Networking happens at industry conferences, seminars and training courses. People are introduced to one another at awards dinners, press launches and social events. 

If you are looking to network your way into larger organisations adjust your strategy. Start to think like them. Position yourself so that you are invited to the same events that they attend.

Work your existing contacts and ask for specific introductions to a particular person in an organisation - websites like LinkedIn are useful for finding out who knows who. Be clear about what you want them to say when they make the introduction. Seek out the coaches and consultants you know who work with larger organisations and get to know them. Find out more about what they do and see if you can help them first, before asking whether they might be willing to consider you when they need an additional coach.

Above all, understand that it can take time even when you've been introduced to the right person. You do need to network in a slightly different way and have a longer-term strategy in mind, but if you start with the end in mind and are clear about what you are setting out to achieve you'll have a much greater level of success.

Checking Accounts For Bad Credit People

You may have heard about checking accounts for bad credit. But, besides all the hype about these sort of accounts, what are the real facts?

If you are looking to open a bank account but can't because you have been blacklisted by the banking world, you need to look at ways of getting an account at a bank when your banking credit is bad.
Second chance accounts, or bad credit bank accounts as they are called, are a way of getting around the banking world's ban. However, there are a few things about these accounts.

1. Second chance banking is EXPENSIVE
2. You may not be able to cash or write checks
3. They are online only bank accounts

You need to think carefully whether or not you can live with these restrictions. If you can, then you can start your search online for checking accounts with bad credit. However, if you can't afford a bad credit checking account, then you will need to look at an alternative way of getting an account opened at a bank.
You can do this by looking around for non-chexsystems banks. That is, banks that don't use the chexsystems banking network. Chexsystems is a interbank network that holds all the bad bank clients. If you can find a bank that doesn't use this network, you will be able to open a checking account even if you have terrible credit history.

The trick is to actually find an bank that doesn't use ChexSystems. These days, that's pretty tough indeed. Most banks do use this banking network.

You can try looking around online for non-chexsystems banks - there are a few bank lists floating around out there. Just don't get suckered into paying money for one of these lists - that's a scam.

Social Networking has become increasingly popular nowadays as there are a lot of sites that offer this service. MySpace and Friendster are two of the most popular sites that aim to build communities of people who share common interests and activities, or who are interested in exploring the interests and activities of others.

THE PROS

A social networking site is like a virtual meeting place where people can hang out and discuss different topics. Anything under the sun, in fact. Some use these networking sites to promote their blogs, to post bulletins and updates or to use them as a bridge to a future love interest.

These are just a few of the reasons why social networking is getting a lot of attention lately -- it makes life more exciting for many people.

THE CONS

However, it would be best to make sure that safety and security are the topmost concerns of the social networking site that you currently use. This is because social networking sites require or give you the option to provide personal information such as your name, location, and email address. Unfortunately some people can take this as an opportunity for identity theft. They can copy your information and pretend to be "you" when engaging in illegal activities. Bad news! So be cautious with what you enter into an online networking site.

You could fall into the trap of someone who pretends to be somebody else. For example, they might offer you a job or want to meet up with you just to get your money. This can lead to cyberstalking, where the stalker uses electronic media such as the Internet to pursue or harass you.

THE CONCLUSION

So take your time and be careful in choosing who to trust so you can hopefully avoid this sort of unpleasant thing happening to you. Apart from that, social networking is great thing.

Networking can mean many things to many professionals depending on the nature of the networking. It can equate to giving and expecting nothing in return. Etiquette and manners are useful tools for networking for success. Professionals can build great business relationships, expand their networks and help their business grow by referring others rather than themselves. An effective means for offering referrals is through emails. Emails are a subtle form of communication that allows the recipient to respond during any time of the day and give the proper and accurate information and resources to their business counterparts. As the middle man, you can properly introduce friends and colleagues and build your clientele/referral base.

When a professional has agreed to introduce two or more colleagues for business or social purposes, the business professional should draft a concise and meaningful message and proof-read. Grammar should be correct and all names of persons should be spelled properly. This can build your credibility and show that you pay attention to detail as well as respect others.

Background Info.

The person making the introduction should set the stage for how all parties know of each other. Be specific and give details about personal and professional associations so that everyone can feel comfortable with each other. Another good idea is to include educational backgrounds or professional and social interests of your business counterparts. This information can be helpful for future reference or later business and social opportunities.

Company Info.

The professional should then describe the business, company or organization of each person. They should make sure to provide the most useful information for making the right connection for business success. New initiatives, new products, training programs, latest technologies which can be of interest to their business counterpart should be highlighted in the email message. Your business counterparts should be able to identify the significance of working and collaborating together for profit or growth.

Sealing the Deal

After the introduction via email has been made, the professional should encourage both parties to connect or reach out to one another. The professional should provide the proper and appropriate contact info for all parties as well as their own information. Also encourage both parties to follow up and ask for assistance when needed.
